42nd Annual Meeting of the Association for Private Enterprise Education

Saint Francis students Geoffrey Ford, senior economics major, JJ Hazenstab, senior dual economics and marketing major, were   among the 30 students to present their research at the 42nd Annual Meeting of the Association for Private Enterprise Education  in Lahaina, Hawaii from April 9th to April 12^th 2017.

The topics at the 42nd Annual Meeting of the Association  for Private Enterprise Education conference features undergraduate research in economics and finance, as well as,  socioeconomic issues in the US.

Geoff presented his paper “Quasi Free Markets in the U.S.” and JJ presented  his honors thesis “The Effect of the Chicago Handgun Ban on Crime.”

Geoff’s research highlights potential inefficiencies created in the market by government intervention as well as provides evidence that the Federal Reserve has lost its ability to make improvements in the US economy after the onset of the 2008 Financial Crisis.

JJ’s research examines the effects of firearm possession by civilians in relation to violent crime rates focusing on notable international and domestic instances. The academic research JJ presented at the conference specifically focused on the ban of handgun ownership and sale in Chicago, Illinois from 1982 to 2010.
